On March 27, 2018, a round table on the theme: "Development of proposals to improve measures of medical and social protection of citizens affected by nuclear tests at the Semipalatinsk test site", timed to the 300th anniversary of the city of Semey was held in Astana. International experts from Japan, Germany, Russia and Belarus, as well as representatives of interested state bodies, non-governmental organizations, scientists and researchers took part in the work of the meeting. Within the framework of the meeting a range of issues on the assessment of medical and social risks caused by exposure to ionizing radiation; on organization of protective and rehabilitation measures for the population exposed to ionizing radiation was considered.

At the same time, during the event, special attention was paid to providing measures of medical and social protection of citizens affected by radiation exposure in countries such as Japan, Germany, Russia and Belarus.

As a result of the discussion, common positions on the practical implementation of tasks to improve measures of medical and social protection of citizens affected by nuclear testing at the Semipalatinsk test site were agreed, and also specific recommendations and proposals were developed for their further implementation.
